The Jersey Whalers are pleased to announce that Chris Barling will be the program’s 16U and 18U head coach.
“We are proud to announce Chris as the head coach of our 16U and 18U Jersey Whalers Tier 1 teams” stated Whalers President George Haviland. “Chris has a great playing resume and his pedigree in the coaching world will be a big asset to our programs and the boys. I have known Chris for over 15 years. He was an original Titan junior player for a few years before he went off to college. His years in the hockey world provide us the right person for our 16U and 18U players” concluded Haviland.
Barling began coaching in 2003 at the Ice Vault Arena in Wayne, NJ. He was a Head Coach and Assistant Hockey Director with the New Jersey Bandits from 2004-2008. While with the Bandits, Barling led Pee Wee and Bantam teams to Silver Stick Regional Championships in 2005 and 2007 respectively.

From 2013-2015, Barling led the Hitmen 2000 team through both their Bantam Minor and Major seasons, guiding them to an appearance in the 2015 Atlantic District Championship. For the past three season, Barling has been the Associate Director of Player Development for the Jersey Colts. He has seen over 50 of his former players move on to play college hockey, over 25 at the Division 1 level. He has also helped to produce three NHL draft picks, two of which have since made their NHL debuts.
As a player, Barling played Junior A hockey for the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs of the EJHL (2002 league champions). While playing for the Monarchs, Barling earned a scholarship to Fairfield University (NCAA Division I). He was also captain for the 2001 New Jersey Titans team that captured the Metropolitan Junior Hockey League Playoff Championship and the bronze medal at the National Championships. He was also a two-year captain for Team New Jersey Chicago Showcase (2001 semi-finalists). Barling played his youth hockey with the New Jersey Devils Youth Hockey Club from mite through Jr. B appearing in the National Championships as a Bantam Major.
