Premier goes 2 – 2 at Jr. Bruins Shootout

The annual Boston Jr. Bruins Shootout was held this past weekend at the New England Sports Center, and the Jersey Whalers Premier team went 2 – 2 in their four games played.

On Friday, the Whalers lost their opening game 5 – 2 against the Springfield Pics. Max Boulin had a goal and an assist while Kenneth Boychuk scored the other goal. Justin Grenon turned aside 36 of 40 shots he faced.

The Whalers had two games on Saturday – both wins. Boychuck hit the back of the net for the Whalers lone goal while Dimitrii Kapranov stopped all 21 shots he faced for his first junior career shutout.

The Whalers then defeated the host Jr. Bruins 3 – 2 in a nine-round shootout. Mikhail Anikin scored both the Whalers goals in regulation then Alexei Karpov found the back of the net for the shootout game winner. Grenon stopped 33 of 35 shots during regulation.

Jersey fell to the Boston Advantage 3 – 2 in their final game. Ed Slack and Klimenti Rachkauskas lite the lamp while Kapranov was saddled with a 30 save loss.

The Whalers premier will now play another four-game showcase at the Bridgewater Sports Arena starting on Thursday. Games can be view in person or via HockeyTV.
