Vitetta scores two in Premier’s 4 – 1 win over PHC in inaugural home opener

The Jersey Whalers USPHL Premier team won its first ever home game by defeating the Philadelphia Hockey Club yesterday 4 – 1 on the back of Samuel Vitetta’s two goals.

Former NA3HL Titans draft pick Sam Libetti opened the score for the Philadelphia Hockey Club (PHC) with 7:36 remaining in the first period.

Vitetta tied the game at one with 4:04 left in the period with assists from Maxime Rolland and Max Maziarchuk.

Vitetta scored his second goal of the game (and eventual game winner) with 9:51 left in the middle stanza with an assist from Mikhail Anikin.

Forty-three seconds later defenseman Michael Campbell scored his second goal of the year to give the Whalers a 3 – 1 lead with assists from Edward Slack and Alex Ceselka.

Ceselka scored his sixth goal of the year with 2:58 remaining in the second period to close out the scoring and make it 4 – 1. Ceselka was assisted by Yakov Yakzhin and Slack.

Dimitrii Kapranov stopped 34 of 35 shots in the win while PHC’s netminders turned aside 30 of 34 shots in defeat. Click here for the box score.

The teams will meet again on Wednesday and Thursday of next week at the Hollydell Ice Arena with a puck drop of 1:00PM for both games.
